3 Fun Homemade Cocktails/Mocktails For MDW

Who doesn't love a festive holiday drink? Let's get the Memorial Day Weekend kicked off right with some fresh and delicious homemade cocktails, perfect for sipping by the pool, on the beach, or at the backyard BBQ. Plus, for people like myself who are more into a non-alcohol-infused concoction at this time, they all taste just as good holding the booze! Get ready for a bartender flex from my college days... here are 3 easy recipes to enjoy during your upcoming fun in the sun.


 

The Popsicle Fizz



Ingredients:


  • Sparkling Wine OR Carbonated Water

  • Popsicles


Directions:


So easy, but looks impressive! Here's all you need to do...

  1. Fill glasses 2/3 with the sparkling beverage of your choice.

  2. Add store-bought or homemade popsicles to each glass (+ decorative garnish if you so choose) and serve!


 

Melon-Berry Cooler



Ingredients:


  • 2 cups finely chopped watermelon

  • 1 cup of thinly sliced strawberries

  • 1 cup coconut water (chilled)

  • 1 tbsp fresh basic (shredded, with some leftover full for garnish)

  • 750 ml sparkling wine OR water (chilled)

  • ice cubes, to serve *the above proportions make 6 drinks


Directions:


Sounds like a lot of shtuff, but I promise it's just prep, blend, and serve!

  1. Blend watermelon and strawberries in a food processor until smooth.

  2. Add coconut water and shredded basil until combined well.

  3. Pour mixture into a pitcher (or individual glasses), and top with sparkling wine or water and ice cubes. Garnish with remaining full basil leaves.


 

Summer Sangria



Ingredients:


  • 2 lemons, sliced

  • 2 oranges, sliced

  • 2 limes, sliced and cut into quarters

  • 1 cup cranberries

  • 2 cups cranberry juice

  • 2 cups grape juice

  • 1 cup orange juice

  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

  • 4 cups dry Spanish red wine + 1/2 cup brandy OR sparkling mineral water (sub for lemon-lime soda, if you prefer a sweeter option) *the above proportions make 8 drinks


Directions:


A fruity crowd-pleaser that everyone will be self-serving refills of!

  1. Add fruit to a large pitcher and muddle with a wooden spoon or similar to release some of the juices.

  2. Add remaining fruit juices and combine.

  3. Just before serving, add wine + brandy or sparkling mineral water/soda and mix well.
